Property Owners Could Be On The Hook To Replace Aging Sewer Lines

Some San Luis Obispo City property owners could be looking at a potentially expensive sewer problem. City officials say Some sewer lateral piping that leads from private property to the city’s mainline is aging and could cause unsanitary overflows. A new ordinance now requires inspections under some circumstances. According to the Tribune, inspections could be triggered by private sewer overflow, building permit applications for a bathroom or kitchen, and changes in ownership of property. Some realtors fear the ordinance could delay home sales. City officials say it’s similar to a termite inspection.
