Despite a 9,000 dollar ad campaign designed to deter visitors from the Valley and a San Luis Obispo County hotel occupancy order, thousands of people headed to Pismo Beach and Avila Beach for Memorial Day. Officials in Pismo Beach say people kept an acceptable distance between themselves, though few face coverings were seen. According to the Tribune, Avila Beach also saw crowds, but social distancing seemed to be an afterthought.
