New State Agency May Be Coming

A bill scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee later today could create a whole new agency designed to help immigrants and refugees. Lawmakers say The California Immigrant and Refugee Affairs agency would put existing resources under the same roof and coordinate efforts between other state and local agencies to address different needs. Meanwhile, some locals feel the new agency could put a strain on the state’s already tight budget. If the bill is signed into law, it would go into effect next year.
