This evening at 6 o’clock kicks off the CHP’s annual New Year’s maximum enforcement period. It’ll last until 11:59 pm Sunday. It’s part of a Western States Traffic Safety Coalition “Drive High, Get a DUI” campaign. Authorities say, during the Christmas holiday maximum enforcement period, at least 38 people died in crashes and 573 arrests for suspected DUIs were made.
