Forward progress of a 600-acre fire near Buellton has been halted. The Drum Fire broke out yesterday afternoon. The wind-driven blaze threatened several structures and forced the evacuations of several residents. Firefighters battled the flames on the ground and from the air. Santa Maria City Fire Department sent crews to help with the firefighting effort. By 6:30 Firefighters had the forward progress of the flames stopped. There were no reports of injuries and no structures were damaged. An investigation into the cause is underway.
