Santa Barbara County reported 54 new cases of confirmed COVID-19, elevating the county’s total to 1,362 cases. 40 of the new cases are inmates at Lompoc Federal Prison. A letter by Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham calls on the California Department of Public Health to exclude the COVID-19 positive case count at the Lompoc prison complex from Santa Barbara County numbers. The current outbreak at the prison accounts for roughly 65 percent of Santa Barbara County’s total COVID-19 cases.
