The settlement was worth 13.5 billion dollars – Pacific Gas & Electric struck the deal just last week with thousands of people who lost homes, businesses and family members in a series of devastating fires. California Gov. Gavin Newsom sent a letter to PG&E CEO William D. Johnson saying the settlement does not achieve the goal of providing safe and reliable power to PG&E customers and the problems are the result of decades of mismanagement that must be addressed before he will sign off on any proposed settlement. A Bankruptcy Judge would have to approve a settlement by Dec. 20 if PG & E hopes to avoid chapter 11.
