24 New Cal Fire Firefighters Coming To SLO County

Governor Newsom declared a State of Emergency in California in March due to an increased wildfire threat. Yesterday, he announced that he had signed an executive order that would allow Cal Fire to hire hundreds of seasonal firefighters statewide. Two dozen of those firefighters will end up in San Luis Obispo County. Fire officials say 12 will be used to train National Guard crews who are called in annually to help with firefighting efforts. The others will be assigned to state-funded engines throughout San Luis Obispo County.
