With 3 vehicle-related deaths already recorded this year and a number of serious injuries, Some want the park shut down. Park officials point out that none of the deaths at the Oceano Dunes were related, adding that it was unusual for them to have happened in such a short period of time. According to a recent study, the Oceano Dunes State Park generates 243 million dollars annually for the surrounding communities. Despite the economic gains, some residents still want restricted access to the dunes.
