A developer will be asking the Santa Maria City Council to rezone a portion of a commercial project to include a new housing project. Dan Blough Construction wants to reserve 20 acres of the 134-acre plot for multi-family homes. According to the city, there is a need for more homes being built. City officials added that the project could bring more tax dollars because once the property is developed the value of the real estate brings in more property tax revenue.
