Miranda Lambert graces the cover of the June issue of Self magazine. Inside the pages, she talks about healthy eating, exercise and sings the praises of women with curves.

Miranda said, “I don’t care about being stick-thin. I don’t want stuff to jiggle. Really skinny actresses make me hungry. I see them and think, Honey, you need to eat! I’m lucky I don’t have to live like that. I feel my best when I’m a toned, not flabby, size 8. Women come up to me and say, ‘You’re beautiful and confident,’ and that makes me feel I can be, too.”

Miranda admits that in the past she wasn’t paying too much attention to her weight and size and got criticized for it in the media. After reviewing old pictures of herself, Miranda said she asked her husband, Blake Shelton, “‘Dude, why didn’t you tell me I got fat?’ He said, ‘That would go over like a lead balloon. It’s not my job to tell you you’re fat. It’s my job to tell you’re beautiful.’”

And the exercise has given her a favorite body part — her butt! Miranda said, “I don’t mind having a big butt. I actually like that about myself.”

Woods Pet of the Week – Sunny D

This week’s featured Pet of the Week is Sunny Dancer aka “Sunny-D”, a 5-year-old medium haired flame pointe Siamese with soft fur and stunning light blue eyes. Sunny D is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped and litter box trained. His previous owner was forced to bring him to WHS because she had to move and was unable to take him to her new home. Used to being in a loving home, he keeps to himself on a shelf in the catio, but he’s very loving and affectionate, so will welcome your attention. Pet him a while and you’ll have him rolling over onto his back, looking up at you fetchingly.

Sunny D is a calm, gentle soul who will fit well into any household. All he wants is a loving home to call his own and someone who will give him all the love he is sure to give them. Sunny Dancer is a very special guy and is definitely worth checking out on your next visit to Woods Humane Society.

Cost Of Raising A Child Up 25% Over Past Decade

The cost of raising a child from birth to age 17 has increased 25 percent over the last 10 years, due largely to the rising cost of groceries and medical care, according to the Department of Agriculture. Health care costs were actually the fastest-rising expense over the past decade, up 58 percent for an average family. The report shows that a middle-income family with a child born in 2010 can expect to spend roughly $227,000 to raise that child — $287,000 when projected inflation is factored in — which doesn’t include the cost of college.
