According to police investigators, the incident happened last week at a San Luis Obispo motel. The alleged victim told police that she was attacked by members of a group of men as she was on her way to her room. She believes the incident is a hate crime because it was sparked by a reaction to her gender and appearance. She spent two day in an area hospital following the attack. According to the Tribune, Prosecutors will have to prove the crime was motivated by the victim’s real or perceived protected social group.
