New Sales Tax Could Pay For Police Headquarters And More

The San Luis Obispo City Council will be discussing the possibility of letting the public decide on a new tax that could fund a number of infrastructure projects. The council could decide to put a potential half or 1 cent sales tax increase on the 2020 ballot. The increase would be used to fund a proposed new police department building that is estimated to cost between 50 and 60 million dollars. Police Chief Deanna Cantrell says the current Headquarters is cramped and outdated and needs to be replaced in order to better serve a growing population.
